Fall Vase

Halloween is now about over and it's time to start decorating for Fall/Thanksgiving!

My first project was to make some candle vases. I found this at Walmart for $1.00

I cut the leaves and berries off with wire cutters. Then placed a candle in each vase and the leaves and berries inside the vase, and around the candle. Then tied some raffia around the top.Cheap and easy! :)

Give Back This Christmas

Every year my church works with a program called, Operation Christmas Child. Their mission:

"To demonstrate God's love in a tangible way to needy children around the world, and together with the local church worldwide, to share the Good News of Jesus Christ."

All you do is fill a shoebox with toys, clothing items, school supplies, candy, and hygiene items. The items you choose to put in your box will depend on the gender and age of the child. Click here for details . After filling your box, go to the website and find out where the nearest location to you is to drop off the box. Click here to find locations.

Here is our box: We decided to do one for a girl between the ages of 2 and 4.

GO MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO A LITTLE GIRL OR BOY THIS CHRISTMAS!!  and remember, JESUS IS THE REASON WE CELEBRATE CHRISTMAS! :)

Silhouette Vs. Cricut ???

So..Christmas is coming up and with all the crafts I've made and want to make, I feel like I really need a cutting machine. I had decided to get a Cricut, but then a friend told me that she wanted a Silhouette! After looking and comparing the two, I think that I really want the Silhouette too. I love that it can connect to your computer and use all the fonts you already have on there-you don't have to buy cartridges!

If anyone has any suggestions or comments about this, please let me know! I'd love your input! :)

Here is the link to the Silhouette website if anyone else wants to look...

Hope everyone is having a great week!

Step Stool ReDo

I saw this step stool for 50 cents at a yardsale and knew I had to have it! The kitchen cabinets are so high that most of the them don't even have anything on the top shelf right now lol So..this was the perfect addition to our kitchen!

Here is before..i forgot to take a picture until I had started painting.

Here is after. Painted it all white, and the top blue that matched our kitchen. You could also Mod Podge scrapbook paper on top if you wanted.

Lil Sausage Mummies

How cute are these SAUSAGE MUMMIES?!?
(I don't have a picture of the ones I made, so I got this picture online somewhere-mine looked pretty much the same though)

Ingredients
  • 1 can of refrigerated crescent rolls (8 ounces)
  • 1 one-pound package of mini sausages (such as Lit'l Smokies)
  • Mustard
Directions
  1. Preheat the oven to 375 F degrees.
  2. Unwrap the crescent rolls from the package and separate into triangles. Using a pizza cutter, or other very sharp knife, cut each triangle into very thin strips (about 1/8 inch).
  3. Starting at one end of the sausage, wrap strips of dough around it so that it resembles a mummy. Be sure to leave an open space for the "face" to show through (on one end).
  4. Place each mummy about 1 inch apart on a baking sheet and bake for about 11 minutes or until the mummies are golden brown.
  5. Dip a wooden skewer or toothpick into some mustard and carefully dot on eyes onto the sausage in the space left open for the face. Serve immediately with additional mustard and ketchup for dipping.

These are some yummy mummies!

Plastic Grocery Bag Solution

Do you have WAY to many plastic bags just stashed somewhere? We did and it drove me crazy that they weren't organized somehow. Not to mention that the new puppy found them and loved to tear them up! So.. I found this great idea HERE.

Start with a Pringles can..empty and cleaned out, of course.

Mod Podge some scrapbook paper on.

Then use a razor to cut a hole in the bottom of the can.
Word of Advice:
I started this project without really looking at the inspiration one first. So..when I decided to cut the whole in the bottom, the plastic bags kept getting ripped on the metal. Solution: Hot glue felt.

In the one on the other blog, she used the plastic lid end for the bags to come out of. By this time it was too late, so I just added the felt so I didnt have to start over.

Then, use a nail to poke holes on both sides of the container for the ribbon.

Add your scrabooking letters or anything else you want to decorate with and ta da!

Thrifty Yardsale Finds

So, I have had these in my fiance's new house for awhile, but decided I would post them on here.

First, my FAVORITE yardsale find..this Butcher Block Island for $20!! Normally they're between $200-$300. So it was quite the bargain! :)

The next thing is this glider we got a a yardsale for FREE. We are still fixing it up, so I will post pics when it's finished.

Then, I got two of these pots for 10 cents! Painted them up and added some roses from the backyard.

Dishwasher Magnent From a CD

No more will the green "clean" light confuse us!
For some reason when the dishwasher door closes, the green clean light always comes on, even when the dishes are dirty. So..when I saw this idea at Joy is at Home I knew I had to make it.

The best part: This project was FREE to make because I had everything at home! Aren't those projects the best?! :)

All you need:
Old CD
Scrapbook Paper
Mod Podge
Ribbon
Magnent
Letter Stickers

First, Trace the CD onto scrapbook paper, cut it out and Mod Podge onto the CD.

Second, add the ribbon: I used two different ribbon and glued on top of each other.

Then glue the ribbon on the CD, add the letters and place the magnet on back.

Fabric Pumpkin: (Just tucked some fabric, $1.00 at Big Lots, into a toilet paper roll, added a stick and ribbon)

The coloring on this one is kinda weird...cuter in person :)    This orange pumpkin ribbon above and the ribbon on candy dish below are both from the Dollar Tree.

Trail Mix: Candy corn, M&Ms, Pretzel sticks, raisins, & peanuts  Mmmmmm.

Here is the shelf in the kitchen. I LOVE the BOO pails! Tutorial HERE
